Septic Mapping & Using GIS to Leverage an Antiquated Tabular Database
How does one go about tracking and mapping 100% of the Septic Systems in a jurisdiction? What happens when your septic tabular database relies on a primary key that is not stable or unique, like a Parcel Number? Once you have mapped Septic Systems what other analysis and outcomes can you realize?
Thurston County is approaching this problem with Septic Systems, in the County, by mapping and leveraging their spatial position. This is then being used to inform the tabular permitting database they are tracked in. In addition the accurate location of these systems is being used to model ground water, located wells, and so much more.
This presentation walks through the process from data design to informing the database, through automation, and some of the cool new analysis and modeling we can now accomplish.
