Mobile Water Shut-Off Application - Four Year Update
Four years ago the City of Bellingham switched from paper-and-pen to mobile mapping for the task of completing weekly water shut-offs for delinquent water accounts. This presentation follows up on a presentation 4 years ago and checks in on lessons learned and ways we've upgraded the process.    Overall the switch has saved the city at least $40,000 a year.

Presenting Survey Monuments in GIS: Like Chocolate & Peanut Butter
Back in the Dark Ages land surveyors had to phone their local agencies to find out what, if any, information was to be found about survey monuments.  Even worse, there was not even a map to help them locate useful survey marks.   The City of Bellingham has solved these problems with a new survey monument lookup tool.

A monument feature class and four related tables provide access to basic structure information, historic visit records, coordinate data, and associated documents such as photos, sketches and recorded surveys and subdivisions. We deliver the information in a user-friendly format using a Geocortex application integrated with our document management system, OnBase.  If you think all of this is good news, just wait until you find out that all of this data is available live on mobile devices as well as desktop.  Surveyors can now get what they need while out in the field!

Tacoma's Street Sign Inventory App
The Street Sign Inventory Web Application combines the City’ of Tacoma's Enterprise Resource Planning solution (SAP) with the GeoCorTex/ESRI mapping solution to provide Street Operations and Traffic Engineering with operational efficiencies. The mobile optimized site enhances the management of the City’s inventory of 37,000+ street signs. It reduces data entry by allowing users to display and edit street sign data stored in GIS
and SAP.

Web App to Inform the Public of Regulation Changes
Every two years, under the guidance of the Pierce County Council , the Pierce County Comprehensive Plan undergoes an amendment process.  Through this process the County Council initiates changes to the text and/or land use designation maps as requested by staff or the public.
In the last two cycles, proposed amendments have included  changes to the Pierce County Agricultural Resource Land (ARL) zoning  definition and mapped zoning.  The county sends a mailing to each effected land owner and those within 300 feet of the subject parcel .  Over the last two cycles (2014 and 2016) the division of Planning and Land Services has sent out 3,500 and 4,000 mailings respectively.
In this presentation I will talk about the differences of how information was shared with impacted land owners and the general public between the 2014 and 2016 amendments.  About how the use of a simple web app built in Web App Builder made it easier for the public to see where the proposed changes were in 2016.  I will also compare how much less staff time was needed for responding to public inquires in 2016 versus 2014.  Much of this time savings can be directly attributed to the fact that a Web App was included as a tool on the Comp Plan Amendment website.
