Every two years, under the guidance of the Pierce County Council , the Pierce County Comprehensive Plan undergoes an amendment process.  Through this process the County Council initiates changes to the text and/or land use designation maps as requested by staff or the public.
In the last two cycles, proposed amendments have included  changes to the Pierce County Agricultural Resource Land (ARL) zoning  definition and mapped zoning.  The county sends a mailing to each effected land owner and those within 300 feet of the subject parcel .  Over the last two cycles (2014 and 2016) the division of Planning and Land Services has sent out 3,500 and 4,000 mailings respectively.
In this presentation I will talk about the differences of how information was shared with impacted land owners and the general public between the 2014 and 2016 amendments.  About how the use of a simple web app built in Web App Builder made it easier for the public to see where the proposed changes were in 2016.  I will also compare how much less staff time was needed for responding to public inquires in 2016 versus 2014.  Much of this time savings can be directly attributed to the fact that a Web App was included as a tool on the Comp Plan Amendment website.
