Curious about this 'vector tiles' thing you’ve been hearing about? Wondering if you can take advantage of their benefits? Or maybe you’d really like your ArcGIS basemap to look a little different but don’t know how to change it.

Vector tiles offer enormous promise: high resolution graphics, significantly smaller storage and bandwidth needs, and the ability to apply multiple styles to a single set of cached tiles without having to re-cache. Anyone can easily change colors, sizes, visibility, rotation, labels, and other symbology to make a basemap perfectly fit a need.

The process is fast, using a clear plain-text format or a web-based style editor. Don’t have your own vector tile basemap to work with? No problem: you can customize one of Esri’s.

Cartographer Kate Leroux from the City of Seattle will introduce you to vector tiles, give practical examples of ways you might want to customize a basemap, and demonstrate how to restyle an Esri vector basemap for use in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Desktop.

Intended audience: Anyone new to vector tiles, especially ArcGIS users.
